Age of Empires Definitive Edition will soon be available on (Xbox) platforms. The Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition will be released for Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and Xbox Cloud Gaming on January 31, 2023, according to a statement from Microsoft made during the franchise’s 25th anniversary show late on Tuesday. Age of Empires 4, which is scheduled for release in 2021, is expected to arrive some time in 2019. Naturally, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have access to both games. Given that AoE has long been a PC-only franchise, this is a significant shift for the real-time strategy genre.
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition received a Teen rating from the ESRB due to the game’s depictions of mild blood, moderate language, and violence, prompting rumors that an Xbox version was in the works. But Microsoft didn’t decide to make it official until a few hours later, when they included the most recent Age of Empires 4 in the mix.
Additionally, Age of Empires 4 Anniversary Collection for PC, which is now accessible on Steam and the Microsoft Store and immerses players in epic historical battles that “formed the world,” was announced by Xbox Game Studios.
Xbox has made sure to incorporate keyboard and mouse inputs on the console version in addition to cross-play capabilities. Additionally, according to the blog post, “We’re introducing the game to Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta), enabling players to continue their empire-building even when away from PC or console.” On the day of its January release, Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition will have every piece of content that has been made available, including three maps, 42 multiplayer civilizations, 34 single-player campaigns, 10 multiplayer modes, and seven co-op missions.
Age of Mythology: Retold
A definitive edition of the original Age of Mythology from 2002 was also revealed by Xbox’s own studio World’s Edge, promising updated graphics and gameplay to appeal to contemporary tastes. The spin-off title, titled “Age of Mythology: Retold,” will keep its original spirit by taking its cues from Norse, Greek, and Egyptian mythology rather than actual historical events as in the primary series.
In a blog post, Michael Mann, Studio Head, World’s Edge, said, “We know that the Age of Mythology community has been eagerly awaiting a Definitive Edition, and we’ll be delivering.” We’re working hard to improve the graphics, features, and more so that you can experience the glory of the original game. Though it referenced PC Game Pass at the end of the trailer, further information on the same will be given in due course.
Age of Empires Mobile
Finally, Age of Empires is coming to Android and iOS mobile devices. The game’s development is being led by the aforementioned World’s Edge, which appears to be Microsoft’s most recent effort to enter the mobile gaming industry.
According to a story from last week, the business is developing an Xbox mobile application store that will enable consumers to download and install games straight on their mobile devices. This event occurs as regulators examine Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $69 billion or about Rs. 5,67,600 crore.
However, there have already been two Age of Empires mobile games released in 2015: Age of Empires: Castle Siege and Age of Empires: World Domination, both of which had a brief existence. For the planned Age of Empires Mobile, neither a beta period nor a launch date are yet known.
Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition debuts for Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X on January 31, 2023, with Age of Empires 4 following a year later in 2021. Age of Mythology: Retold and Age of Empires Mobile’s release dates are unknown.
